Apa itu Report Text?

Report Text adalah jenis teks dalam bahasa Inggris yang menyajikan informasi tentang suatu objek (hewan, tumbuhan, fenomena alam, teknologi, atau sosial) secara umum berdasarkan hasil pengamatan atau analisis sistematis.

1. Social Function / Purpose

Untuk menyampaikan informasi umum tentang sesuatu sebagaimana adanya kepada pembaca (To present information about something in general).

2. Generic Structure

• General Classification: Pernyataan umum tentang objek yang dibahas.
• Description: Penjelasan detail (bagian, sifat, kebiasaan, fungsi, dll).

3. Language Features (Unsur Kebahasaan)

• Menggunakan Simple Present Tense (contoh: Whales breathe air through blowholes).
• Menggunakan General Nouns (contoh: Volcanoes, Cats, Laptops - bukan objek spesifik seperti my cat).
• Menggunakan Action Verbs (contoh: hunt, fly, produce, produce).
• Menggunakan Istilah Teknis / Ilmiah (Technical Terms) (contoh: habitat, carnivore, photosynthesis).

Text 1: The Komodo Dragon

The Komodo dragon is the largest living species of lizard in the world. It is found in the Indonesian islands of Komodo, Rinca, Flores, Gili Motang, and Padar. A member of the monitor lizard family, it can grow to a maximum length of 3 meters and weigh up to 70 kilograms.

Komodo dragons are carnivores. Although they eat mostly carrion, they will also hunt live prey including invertebrates, birds, and mammals. They have sharp, serrated teeth and a long, yellow, deeply forked tongue. Their bite delivers deadly venom and bacteria, which weakens prey over time.

Komodo dragons are solitary animals, coming together only to breed and eat. Female Komodos lay their eggs in burrows or abandoned nests. Young Komodo dragons are vulnerable and live in trees to avoid predators, including adult dragons.

Text 2: Smartwatch

A smartwatch is a wearable computer in the form of a wristwatch. Modern smartwatches provide a local touchscreen interface for daily use, while an associated smartphone app provides management and telemetry.

Smartwatches are equipped with various sensors such as heart rate monitors, accelerometers, and GPS. They connect to smartphones wirelessly via Bluetooth to notify the user of incoming calls, text messages, and application alerts. Many models can also track fitness metrics like daily steps, sleeping patterns, and calories burned.
